Move

Mar. 12th 10 | 04:06 pm

I've said it before and quite a few times. But after 6 years (this one followed my juvenile young-adult ramblings) I'm moving on. To more streamlined and friendly platforms.

Cheerios!

Weekend Wins

Mar. 7th 10 | 11:39 pm

How was your weekend?

It was one of my best friend's birthday, she turned 26. So my weekend began with a long night of merrymaking, an open bar, old friends, new friends, and good vibes. That's her up there cracking up and laughing herself silly with some fun funny people. Happy birthday Bea! ♥

Yes, I do love puppies so much.
And it was another puppy weekend, as my mom brought finally the runt home. She is the tiniest thing I've ever seen, and the happiest friskiest pup ever. Her tail just doesn't stop!
She and I developed an instant bond, and I'm quite uncertain about this attachment. She'll be with us for only a week, before she goes to her new home. I've been so attached to these crazy, furry things so many times before and just as many times I've been brokenhearted by their loss. But still, this small feisty thing absolutely made my weekend!

Words I stumbled upon, and pondered on.

Have a wonderful week ahead, everyone!

Bangkok thus far

Jan. 29th 10 | 09:21 am
Splat in: hotel room

Will be back in a few days.

Because I am still here at the neighbors.
The past week: ambush, tons of good good good veggie eats such as a daily vegan buffet, a vegetarian hotel, smooth trains, scary drivers, right-hand driving, fat cats and bigger dogs, feminine men, tranny strippers, communication failure, lost in translation, exceptional customer service, dazed tigers, gluttonous elephants, historical architecture, intricate art, cheap hard-to-find (in Manila) film, more good veggies, massage paradise, coconut country, king-love galore, shopping, shopping, and more crazy shopping.

This place is indeed a melting pot and definitely a feast for ze senses. Everywhere is a stim boom.
I'm only getting climatized now, the prannygoose has been quite antsy. I daresay I really underestimated the language barrier.

Anyway I'm off to breakfast. Did I say my hotel is a proud vegetarian one and so is the daily breakfast buffet? :)

The Burger Blather

Jan. 17th 10 | 11:47 pm

Made of beet, black bean, brown rice, some umami and provolone cheese, well-seared and an extra boost of smoky flavor. Inspired by their veg burgers.

UPDATED. The following paragraphs I had to omit from a particular community cross-post, after eliciting some violent reactions. Many were offended, that the post picked on people's choices and lifestyles. Such as one fervent In-and-Out fan indicating I unrightfully put said burger in the same level as Jack in the Box and White Castle. As well as a FYI of the related atrocities of meat production and dairy.

As much as I am apologetic for stepping on anyone's toes (save for the sordid system), I find it absolutely funny that my thoughts would have such an effect. This was, after all, me coming clean and openly discussing my own personal reasons for trying to stay away from fast food and meat and particularly why it has been arduous. I'd think the attempt at striking a balance would've immediately been spotted albeit the opinion. Guess not.

Not when sensitivities are hyper, feathers are ruffled, and lines in between are not properly digested.

Hello 2010 and hello Wordpress!

Dec. 23rd 09 | 02:18 am

SOON.

Maybe instead of another cyber repository, my brainfarts and cockamie overtures need a suppository.
But I am a suckah for nice and clever platforms and besides, all I've been seeing here are my head's dust bunnies unlikely to undergo any sort of evolution.

Urgent Advisory: World Pyro Olympics 2009 has been postponed.

The Executive Committee of the World Pyro Olympics (WPO) '09 announces the RESCHEDULING of the WPO, originally set on November 28, December 5, 12 and 19, to January 2010.

The incessant rains and flooding during the past months have rendered the firing area almost unfit for pyrotechnics launchings which have certain international standards to observe. The participating countries have thus agreed to reschedule the event.

Tickets purchased will still be honored on the new event dates. Final dates will be announced very soon on this site and our official website. Please keep checking for updates. Ticket holders are requested to contact our hotlines at 568-6908 / 384-0239 or log on to http://www.facebook.com/l/0ee6f;www.worldpyroolympics.com for more details.

Last weekend )

*Update, 16 Oct 2009 Friday: Ondoy/ Ketsana happened instead.

I came out of my French class to find N.Garcia Street (formerly Reposo) flowing like a river. Without a clue if the rain would cease, we waited it out for over an hour. Eventually we all decided to make a run for it. Plowing through the muddy water, we reached Buendia only to find it deserted. Not a single car, cab, or jeep.

It was eerie.

And in desperate times you do find strangers converging in such public spaces, whereas under normal circumstances we would give each other no more than a mere glance, brushing past each other as we rush through the human traffic, impatience thick in the air.

We all asked one another what was happening. Some shared status reports, informing us that there was no accessible public transportation until some kilometers away. Some offered directions and passage ways to curb the inconvenience. We shared umbrellas and shelter space under roofs and sheds.

Then we all went our own ways and walked. And walked. And walked. And walked.
For me it was a total of 13 KM.

That wasn't the plan, but that was pretty much the only way I would transport myself anywhere. It also clearly portrayed my impatience. Vehicles were in a standstill and people marched along EDSA like a pilgrimage. And something struck me though: people didn't cease being kind, pleasant and helpful. Throughout the stretch, people were still smiling, sharing their umbrellas, and cracking jokes about their broken ones or lost shoes.

I only learned of the extent of the damage brought on by the typhoon, when I finally accessed television. The rest of the week was an avalanche of relief efforts and volunteer work.

Filipinos. Chin up, head high, always smiling.
